We proudly support the two most popular open-source database servers: MySQL and PostgreSQL. Both servers are used extensively in mission-critical websites and online games, and have long histories of proven stability and performance.

Via a PostgreSQL extension called PostGIS, a PostgreSQL database can even store spatial geometries; the effect is a database which acts like a shapefile, or if you prefer, a shapefile which can be queried via SQL and which has caching and memory management. However you look at it, it's a reliable and effective alternative to shapefiles for high-performance mapping applications.
